Haemolacria refers to the presence of blood in the tears. Concentrations may be so low that it can only be detected with laboratory testing, or the patient may appear to be bleeding from the eyes due to the high blood content. It usually appears as a symptom of disease, although it can also develop spontaneously in some cases, particularly in fertile women.

How do you feel about people asking others to stop doing things because it's triggering to them? Pretty much asking a stranger to change themselves so they don't feel triggered? Like, asking a skinny girl to stop taking photos of herself because it triggers a girl with an eating disorder. Or someone using a standard pronoun on someone that identifies with the opposite sex instead? I feel like everyone has become extremely fragile and so easily offended.

Many of the pseudo-socially conscious people on places like Tumblr completely misuse the term “triggering” as some sort of synonym for “disturbing” or “disagreeable”, so I may be wrong in assuming you’re using it in the right context here in this question. For the sake of you knowing what I’m specifically referring to, I will clarify that the actual term refers specifically to post-traumatic stress disorder and any tangible thing that can potentially send a victim of it into a flashback and subsequently uncontrollable loss of emotional and sometimes even physical control.

That being said, it’s nearly impossible to know what will or can trigger a true victim of post-traumatic stress disorder. Anything from seeing the corner of a ceiling, hearing a certain noise, or even reading certain words can send someone into convulsions. Either way, I’m pretty sure, from a medical perspective, it’s probably more productive for a sufferer of trauma with potential for being triggered to face their experiences and the things in everyday life that reopen those scars head-on and seek professional help if they’re still enduring the mental and emotional backlashes of whatever it was that happened to them. It’s more practical and beneficial to the individual for them to keep talking about what happened to them and going through the motions towards healing as best as they can. Other people censoring themselves on the off-chance that someone around them might be potentially triggered by something is needless and ultimately impossible, since literally anything can wind up serving as a trigger. Then again, I’m not a doctor; I’m only coming from the perspective of someone who has a little knowledge about this topic and as someone who was a victim and suffers both from trauma and triggers in my day-to-day life.

I have mixed feelings about “preferred gender pronouns” and whatnot, since I see gender as strictly anatomical, but I do think that we should respect those who may be going through transition or trying to find themselves in that way. Obviously, we have no way to know ahead of time what they would prefer, so the best we can do is listen when they speak and accommodate them the best that we can. It’s the least they deserve.

People are fragile and we should cherish the fact that we’re reaching a point in our social history that so many different types of people are finding the courage and strength to publicize exactly who they are. After all, we’ve always been a fragile species; it was the shame and fear that kept so many people who are now out in the open today from being true to themselves in the past. I think the social justice assholes on here have definitely given social consciousness and many of the groups they claim to represent and defend a bad name, but their idiocy and the ridiculous way they’ve gone about things does not discredit the importance of respecting each and every person on this planet for who they are and the ways they choose to live or identify themselves. Fragility and being emotional are not bad things; they are human things.

So according to that picture of the pig I can never be a true vegan because I'm a type one diabetic. Our insulin has to come from animals, there isn't another option for us.

Actually, since sometime in the ’70s, it has come almost exclusively from genetically-engineered, synthetic versions of “human” insulin. However, there is also the contentious topic of it still being tested on animals (which all medicines, by federal law in America, must be).

It’s my personal opinion that, in such cases, vegan purity is not worth dying for. If you have an illness that must be remedied with modern medicine, it makes more sense for you to use it. After all, the world isn’t going to be a much better place with one less vegan on it. Even Ingrid Newkirk, the founder of PETA, still uses insulin.

any idea on weight gain / loss when vegetarian? and the same thing when vegan? I just want to know if there is a difference and why? thanks

I think the general consensus is that veganism/vegetarianism leads to weight loss. When I became a vegetarian, I definitely lost weight. However, because my diet still included large portions of dairy and eggs and snack foods, I actually wound up gaining twenty-five pounds a few years later. Since going vegan almost four years ago, I haven’t lost any weight, though many people I know have. I also don’t gain weight, though. Statistically, only about 1% of all vegans suffer from obesity.

Of course, as with any diet, the people who adhere to it come in all different shapes and sizes, their particular individual way of practicing that diet differs, and their bodies respond to the diet in varying ways. Even though I do truly believe that even the worst implementation of a vegan diet is far healthier than any omnivorous diet, it is totally possible to be an unhealthy vegan.

Basically, if you want to lose weight, eat responsibly and healthily; portion your meals and don’t eat until or past being full; try not to eat before you go to sleep; reduce your sugar and fried foods; drink juices with only natural sugar or only water. Veganism could possibly help in itself, but your health and weight ultimately is dependent on how you eat.
